2016 Mercedes E 200d With 150 HP 2-Liter Engine Isn't That Bad

The "200" diesel version of the E-Class has been around for a very long time. The latest version employs a less powerful version of the engine found in the E 220d. The output has gone down from 194 PS to 150 PS and torque is 360 Nm. Still, that's nearly identical to what the competition offers.

Available in both sedan (W213) and wagon (S213) forms, this base engine can be paired to either the excellent new 9-speed auto. Even the bulkier wagon model, it's enough grunt to get you from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and still achieve city fuel economy rating of 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers. By comparison, an S211 E-Class from 2003 would do over 10s to 100 km/h and 8.7 l/100km.

All together, we've got three videos for you guys from a YouTube channel called Test Drive Freak. According to the first, the sedan will do 100 km/h in 8.17 seconds but need 49.06 seconds to reach 200 km/h. That's because it's near the top speed of 225 km/h, according to the second video.

We know how the Germans like to cross the entire country in one night, doing over 200 clicks constantly. So the E 220d is likely to be the more popular diesel model. But in places like Belgium and Scandinavia where taxation is done according to power output, it's going to be the other way around.

The third and final video is a silent review with about 20 minutes of footage. That's what you need to watch if you're considering the E 220d as your next car. The sedan is configured in typical German 'cement salesman' style, with silver paint and black leather. There's nothing that screams "new car" at you.

The bits we found interesting include the blue ambient lighting, traditional analog clocks that you rarely see on the W213 and the foldable shopping box hidden under the trunk floor, like on the V-Class. Oh, and the screen is tiny with a big black bezel.
