Following closely behind the new Genesis flagship sedan, the Sonata is the first major mass-market Hyundai to adopt a new design language. There's no question that it looks almost as good as a Ford Fusion, but is it worth buying? Time to find out, because pricing has been announced today, and it starts from $21,150 in the United States.
For that, you get the entry-level SE model with LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning and a six-speaker basic sound system. The standard engine is a 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder that produces 185-hp (138 kW) and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque.
A standard 2014 Ford Fusion is slightly more expensive at $21,970, but it does come with SYNC, MyFord and one-touch power windows. However, on paper at least, the Ford is 10 hp down on its Korean rival.
The next grade costs $23,175 and brings a different grille, bigger 17-inch wheels and a dual exhaust system. Inside, the Sonata Sport comes with heated front seats, a 10-way power driver seat and a 5-inch infotainment display. If you want leather seats and wood trim, the $26,525 Sonata Limited is the car for you and also boasts dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, powered passenger seat and a more premium system that comes with a subwoofer.
Finally, there's the cool Sonata in our photos. That's the Sonata Sport 2.0T, which as you'd expect comes with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, one that produces 245-hp (182 kW) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque. This model has the same 6-speed automatic transmission, but as an extra paddle shifters have been added to the steering wheel.
This model costs a whopping $28,575 and features HID Xenon headlights, a sporty body kit and 18-inch wheels. Sport 2.0T model also get quad exhaust, a tuned suspension system, bolstered steering wheel and a diffuser. Even if the top-spec model looks on paper like a Passat GLI beater, it's going to be a hard sell. However, the rest of the 2015 Sonata range is very reasonably priced.
