Skipping past the Star-Spangled Banner moment, is this large pickup really that important? Well, in a word, YES. This radical new look gives the Tundra the grille and go-power to finally take on Ford mightily F-150.
The 2014 Tundra was revealed today at the Chicago Auto Show. As is now the trend in the pickup industry, adding chrome is crucial, as is a wider grille. For 2014, the Tacoma also has a better, slimmer lower bumper design, which has a distinct touch of F-150 to it.
Under the bonnet, the 2014 Tundra gets the same choice of 278hp 4-liter V6, 310 hp 4.6-liter V8 and 381hp 5.7-liter V8. The base engine has a five-speed auto, while the other two are offered with six-speed units. Prices have yet to be announced, but you can expect 1 or 2% increase to be applied.
"Toyota prides itself on listening to its customers and the development of the 2014 American-born Tundra is a perfect example," said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division.
"Tundra’s new exterior design and all-new interior were inspired by customer feedback requesting a more chiseled exterior and refined interior with improved driver ergonomics, and easy-to-use technology, giving customers more of what they want instead, in addition to what they need," he continued.
