Volkswagen decided to return the classic, beloved Bulli in a new vehicle, but with a design inspired by its famous former predecessor, and called it the ID. Buzz.

Based on the same platform as the rest of the ID. Family, the ID. Buzz tried to make a stance in the mid-size MPV and LCV segment with its electric powertrain that provided it enough power and energy to be used as a delivery van or a family-oriented leisure vehicle.

At the front, the carmaker placed a sloped front fascia instead of a flat, vertical one as on the Bulli. Yet, the big, chromed VW badge and the wide V-shaped front panel resembled the older model. For the apron, the carmaker chose an unusual rhomboidal pattern. On its sides, the car unveiled the same basic principle as its predecessor, with regular, front-hinged front doors and sliding ones for the rear passengers. The back was also unusual, with very slim taillights connected via an LED strip that ran across the tailgate.

The interior was a completely new story, with a display above the center stack and a TFT screen in front of the driver. But Volkswagen took a smart decision and let a passage between the front seats, with a retracted center console that divided only the space between the front passengers. The car featured a 60/40 split-folding bench wide enough for three occupants with plenty of legroom and headroom in the back.

Unlike its siblings, the ID.3 and the ID.4, the ID. Buzz was available with only one drivetrain option at the launch. Volkswagen chose a 204 hp electric motor fed by a 77 kWh battery pack for propelling the vehicle. It could also store energy and deliver it either to other cars or to a home.

The new 2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB represents a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Volkswagen T2, a car that roamed all the corners of the world in various adventures. The German automaker takes a zero-emission approach and offers a fully electric alternative in the microbus market.

Coming with a lengthened wheelbase, the North American version of the ID.Buzz provides ample cargo space and accommodates three rows of seats, compared to the two rows of the European version.

Maintaining the traditional rear-mounted power source, the North American version has an electric motor more capable than the European one. Providing 282 hp, compared to the 201 hp of the Europe model, the car is well-balanced and has enough power to complement the more extensive body.

To ensure enough energy, the battery's capacity is enlarged, jumping to 91 kWh from the European model's 82 kWh. There is also a dual-motor version of the ID.Buzz that comes with all-wheel drive instead of the standard rear-wheel drive and has a power output of 330 hp.

The exterior comes in a variety of colors that enhance the classic two-tone design of the car. Alongside the vibrant colors, the frontal Volkswagen badge is illuminated, and from its surroundings, two light lines emerge and highlight the contrasting look of the vehicle.

The LED headlights give the car a futuristic touch that breaks the old-school overall style of the exterior provided by the air "vents" that remind of the cooling circuit of the old Volkswagen T2. Regarding practicability, the power-sliding doors from the back of the car offer a wider entrance towards the third row of seats.

As a stunning feature that can be observed from the inside and the outside, the largest sunroof in the Volkswagen Group has electronically adjustable opacity to offer privacy and shade when needed and a feeling of a roomier interior when the car may be too crowded for comfort.

Because it represents such a big part of the roof, the sunroof's glass is coated to help reflect the light and block the heat that may come through from the sun, considering it has a significant surface of approximately 19 square feet (1.7 square meters).

Every aspect has been meticulously considered in the interior's design, showcasing a range of thoughtful features. The attention to detail is evident from the dash adorned with wood-optic details reminiscent of retro aesthetics to the playful inclusion of the Play and Pause pedals inspired by the 2016 BUZZ concept.

The center console is removable and offers versatile storage options to adapt to a family's needs on a road trip. It features two distinct dividers that serve as both a bottle opener and an ice scraper, along with two extra compartments below for added convenience.
