We couldn't say that the ride or the handling of the Rolls-Royce Ghost, are far better than what the
Audi A8,
BMW 7 Series or
Mercedes S-Class have to offer. The same thing goes for the technology inside the British automobile. Nonetheless, it is the way in which the Brit wraps its assets in a unique package that sets it apart.
The design is certainly impressive and so is the comfort, but the secret here is the overall experience. Despite being so complex and refined, the Ghost manages to keep things extremely simple. Its native assets mean it doesn't need any added drama to work its ways.
This attitude of the Ghost makes up its best part. This car goes past the mere driving impressions, it has a personality that makes you fall in love with it.
Of course, the Ghost has its shadier sides. We're talking about its BMW base and the thing's pricing. The idea of these two taken together is the worst part of the Ghost. Despite this, none of the aforementioned bits is actually important. We do have to give you the price though: the Ghost starts at $250,000, while in Europe it’s offered for at least EUR240,000 (20% VAT included).
Let's not worry about the actual, "loaded" pricing of the Ghost. Instead, we'll focus on its superpower. When it comes to the value for money points, the Ghost receives a clear ten. This is a car you can buy and drive for years and years - you'll be imune to facelifts and new generations.
As for the comparison with Bentley, things aren't all that easy. First of all, VW and BMW have somehow managed to avoid direct competition between Bentley and Rolls-Royce. The Bentley Flying Spur is placed lower than the Rolls-Royce Ghost, and the story is the same with the Mulsanne and the Phantom.
In the end, the closest comparison sees the Ghost going head to head with the Mulsanne. We'd go with the first. Despite the aforementioned target of the Mulsanne, the Ghost offers just as much luxury. More importantly, it makes for a much more involving driving experience, whereas the Mulsanne requires a chauffeur, albeit one that will be enchanted.
It takes sixty Rolls-Royce specialists about twenty days to put a Ghost together. Even if you forget this fact, you’ll feel it - the first decades of the 20th century were marked by a sense of occasion that arose each time a longer journey was on the horizon. Modern cars have lost that perfume, but you'll certainly find it in the Rolls-Royce Ghost.
