KAHN RANGE ROVER Review

What do Winston Churchill, Madonna and the fictional character from the novel The Da Vinci Code have in common? Well, you wouldn’t imagine that Madonna Louise Ciccone and Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill shared the same tastes in fashion, but the history books prove this did actually happen.

We are talking about Harris Tweed, a fabric that has been the material of choice for important, very important people, for quite a while now. It has its own Act of Parliament for God’s sake!

Thus, it’s no wonder that British aftermarket developer Kahn, which is part tuner, part design house (as we found out when we visited it) has chosen to use Harris Tweed for a special edition of their core model, the Range Rover.

We put on a pair of appropriate shoes (do you have any idea how difficult it is to find driving shoes that look at least a little bit elegant?) and went to touch the famous fabric ourselves.

The Show

Mean. We could end this chapter using just the aforementioned word, as it perfectly describes the appearance of the Kahn Range Rover Harris Tweed Edition.

Kahn used matte pearl gray details over a black finish, accentuating the feeling of aggression - it’s as if the car shows that it’s both Master and Blaster. The RS front rear bumper, and side skirts also deserve credit for this.

The lower area of the front fascia, which is one of the elements that come dressed in the aforementioned Matte Gray, says “Get out of my way!” and the LED daytime running lights amplify the emotion. If you don’t do this, you’ll be in trouble - the 22-inch rims finished in the same color will take care of that. If you obey, you will be in trouble again, as you’ll get to meet the quad rear silencers, which, through their shape and color, remind us of a machine gun.

A car like this needed one or two pixels of color and, if you dare to take a good look at the three tons of dark steel, you’ll notice that the brake calipers are finished in what Kahn calls “liquid gold”.

Range Rover offers an exterior kit of its own, but if you tick it on the list of optional extras, you won’t be able to choose the lockable rear differential (no, we don’t understand the reason either), so don’t even thing about going for the factory bad boy look.

In fact, you wouldn’t need to anyway, as the RS body kit doesn’t bring the visual exaggeration many tuning body kits come with - it looks as if it could’ve been there from the beginning.
