When combining a seriously fast car with an open-top, the result should be a roadster. Porsche decided to make a vehicle lineup with track performances but daily usability. And then, chopped its roof and made it a Cabriolet.

The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Convertible was launched in 2014. It was the open-top version for the Carrera 4 GTS. It featured the same exterior details such as the Porsche Turbo S wheels, carbo-ceramic brakes, and the rear pop-up wing. The lowered suspension increased the cornering speed ability.

The Carrera GTS was made to be a bridge between the Carrera S and the Carrera GT3. Even if it didn't feature the all-wheel-steering system, it was still very fast and able to tackle a race-track with honorable results. The GTS offered 30 more hp than the S and that was applied on the Cabriolet as well.

Inside, there was room for two passengers, even if there was a pair of seats in the back. Even the manufacturer recognized that nobody could be seated there and this is why it trimmed only the front seats in Alcantara.

From the performance point of view, the Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet was slower than the Carrera 4 GTS Coupe. But in terms of leisure and open-top driving, it did offer a different perspective. And it wasn't a slow car whatsoever.

The Carrera GTS lineup was placed between the Carrera S and the Turbo range. It was the Porsche Turbo without turbochargers, and it was available as a rear-wheel-drive only and as a convertible.

The GTS was powered by the same engine that was installed under the limited-edition Porsche 911 Sport Classic, but it was offered with more options. It wasn't just a driver's car, it was built for the passenger as well, with more options for comfort.

From the outside, the Carrera GTS Cabriolet featured the same wide body as the Carrera 4 Cabriolet. At the front, the sport design apron featured a black lip-spoiler underneath. On the sides, the sills featured the same black low side. The Carrera GTS logo was painted on the doors. In the back, the car was fitted with LED taillights and four-round exhaust pipes. The 19” light-alloy wheels with central log-nut were fitted as standard.

Inside, the Carrera GTS Cabriolet was not an empty shell. It was fitted with comfort features and with a choice of seats, but all of them were sport-oriented with bolstering on the outside. The three-spoke steering wheel was upholstered in Alcantara and behind there were the paddle-shifters for the PDK gearbox. For the infotainment unit, Porsche installed the PCM (Porsche Communication Management), with iOS compatibility. For Android users, the car-manufacturer offered a special application. The power-roof could open or close the top in 20 seconds at speeds up to 50 kph (31 mph).

The 3.8-liter engine was the same as the one offered on the Sport Classic edition. It was a 3.8-liter unit tuned to offer 405 hp, which was more than what the GT3 offered. It was paired as standard to a 6-speed manual, while a 7-speed PDK (double-clutch) automatic gearbox was on the options list.
