The new 408 is a mid-size sedan created by the French car manufacturer Peugeot especially for the Chinese market. The car was designed in France and although intended for the Chinese market, Peugeot plans on selling the car in other countries as well around the world as well. The car was produced at the Wuhan plant in China.

The 408 built in 2010 was a long wheelbase sedan based on the 308 version. The nameplate of 408 indicates several aspects: 4 – was referring to the size of the vehicle (4.68 meters), 0 that it belonged to the Lion’s Marque and the 8 represented the 8th generation.

The 408 isn't 407's successor, but rather a niche model created for specific car market demands and requirements. Presented as a medium-luxury family saloon, the 408 receives an elegant and imposing design for both the exterior and interior. Some of the car's most intriguing features include a large and fold-away 7-inch screen, dashboard-mounted CD player with MP3 and WMA compatibility, Bluetooth support and USB connectivity. Behind the bulgy and muscular hood, the 408 comes with either a 1.6- or a 2.0-liter petrol engine with 110 and 147 hp respectively. Both engines were mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The 408 was built with the aim of conquering China’s local market.
