autoevolution's Earth month

There’s something floating in the air, can you feel it? Of course not, most of you are now quarantined indoors. For the first time in oh-so-many years, that thing floating in the ambient air, which used to consist mostly of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) harmful for you health, is now arguably consisting of hope.

Stark measures have been taken to limit the spread of Covid-19, which is currently keeping billions of people confined to their homes, so most traffic on land, air and water has decreased considerably, thus improving the air quality around the world.

Why is this important, you ask? Well, to paraphrase George Carlin, the planet is fine, it’s us that need some R&R and some clean air for our future generations. For better or for worse, planet Earth is the only home we have, at least for the foreseeable future, and we should probably take better care of our host.

Starting with 1970, humans have celebrated Earth Day on April 22 every year, but there hasn’t been a better time to actually do something collectively about the pollution created by us than the year we're currently in. The social distancing measures put in place around the world are only one metric that seems to have done any good for air quality, especially in cities, but there are numerous other ways to curb the continuous attack on the environment.

Some of them obviously include the development of greener ways to travel, which is why autoevolution has decided to dedicate the entire month of April to our home, the Earth. Celebrate it with us!
