Remember when earlier this year a little-known Norwegian small scale car manufacturer called Zyrus Engineering made the headlines for beating then-record holder Aventador SVJ for the title of fastest Lamborghini around the Nürburgring Nordschleife? It was months ahead of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series’ new best time of 6:43 and was actually way better – stopping the chronometer at just 6:29.
Of course, the official record holder for the fastest lap around the Green Hell is the production coupe from Affalterbach. This is simply because the Zyrus LP1200 was developed starting from a base Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO race car, with both the donor car and the modified example being confined to exclusive track use.

But now there’s a new contender. Or, rather, it’s V2 – the second build version – now entitled the Zyrus LP1200 Strada. Because “Strada” means street in Italian, we can easily understand why Zyrus Engineering is so proud of spending two years of “rigorous testing and over 6,000 km of track action” for the creation of their new road-legal LP1200 Strada.

More importantly, the company’s social media announcement also includes a comment from Radni Molle Molhampour, the sales and marketing manager, clearly hinting at some Nürburgring Nordschleife action for the year that’s just about to come.

The credentials would certainly support an attempt to bring back the glory to Lamborghini. Based on the Lamborghini Huracán LP640-4, the LP1200 Strada is a fully custom project with more than 600 parts changed from stock. It weighs just 1,427 kg (3,146 lbs) but can boast a total downforce of 2,010 kg (4,431 lbs) at 200 mph (321 kph).

Because it needs to follow legal requirements for street use, the company embedded a 900-hp mode; still, through its electronic Smart Dash control system or a smartphone app the car can be dialed back to the full 1,200 hp for track use.

Zyrus doesn’t mention how many units of the limited production LP1200 Strada will become available for worldwide customers, but it did give away an important figure – pricing kicks off at €595,000, which is around $729k at the current exchange rates.
