Just as the trade war between the United States and China seems to be heating up, one Asian auto company is making a bold move and announces it will soon descend upon unsuspecting Americans.
The company is called Zotye, and since its establishment in 2005 it managed, alongside few other notable names like Geely, to rise above the countless other Chinese carmakers and make itself known internationally.

From 2020, Zotye will make another important step towards global recognition as it will become the first Chinese carmaker to begin selling its cars in the U.S. under a Chinese brand name.

The announcement made this week by Zotye comes on the heels of an agreement Zotye reached with HAAH Automotive to establish the required sales and distribution network. The U.S. of Zotye headquarters will be in Lake Forest, California.

The news was accompanied by limited info about the brand’s first model to sell in the U.S. Zotye says their car will be an SUV, one that is currently in “engineering and homologation” processes. The name of the SUV was not announced.

“I am beyond thrilled to make this announcement, the result of more than four years of discussions and negotiations with the Zotye in China,” said in a statement Zotye International chairman Wangsheng Zhu.

“With the agreement, we have begun setting up a franchised dealer network to handle sales and service in America. “

In China, Zotye is already working with an American partner. The Chinese are linked to Ford, and together are currently working on the creation of a fleet of customized all-electric vehicles to be used for ride-hailing purposes.

Zotye is also the company behind hits like the SR9, a clone of the Porsche Macan, the T600, heavily inspired by the Volkswagen Touareg, or the Z300 sedan, a copy of a Toyota model called Premio.
