Zipcar Ties the Knot with the University at Buffalo

Another campus win for car sharing company Zipcar was announced today, following several other similar achievements this week. This time, Zipcar has partnered with the University at Buffalo (UB) to give students and staff access to shared vehicles.

The cars to be supplied by Zipcar will be available to all students, faculty, and staff members, ages 18 and older. The company will charge $8 per hour or $66 per day, with an annual membership fee for UB affiliates of $35.

According to the studies conducted by Zipcar in the regions where it is present, offering a single car in the sharing system translates into 15 to 20 privately owned vehicles being taken off the road. In Cambridge for instance, once the service became available, 3,000 less parking sticker requests have been filed with the city authorities.

"After a very thorough analysis, we are excited to include a car-sharing service in our alternative transportation program, UB Carfree, that meets all the needs of our campus community," said Maria Wallace, director of Parking & Transportation Services at UB.

The Zipcars will be deployed around the UB campus, as it follows: three vehicles on the North Campus (one at the UB Student Union and two in the Fargo Lot) and one vehicle on the South Campus' Goodyear Hall.

"The service provides a new level of freedom for students, faculty and staff a relieves the financial burden parents face when sending their kids to college with a car that sits idle most of the time,”
added Matthew Malloy, Zipcar vice president of Global University Operations.
