Zipcar Parking Spots Extend in Vancouver

Car sharing company Zipcar announced yesterday that its partnership with the city of Vancouver is further strengthening, as Zipcar users are now allowed to park at select locations on city streets, including new locations in Yaletown and the Financial District.

The company also announced it is outfitting each car in its fleet with Resident Permit Parking (RPP), giving Zipcar members the ability to park in any of the city's 20 RPP zones free of charge.

As local governments look to bring more sustainable transportation alternatives to their residents, Zipcar continues to be recognized as an effective solution.

According to the car sharing company, studies have shown that each Zipcar replaces between 15 and 20 personally owned vehicles, and that Zipcar members increase their use of public transit and reduce overall driving, helping to reduce parking demand, congestion and emissions.

Zipcar members also report saving more than $600 per month compared to owning a car, in many cases redirecting those savings to community businesses.

"The city benefits from reduced congestion, pollution and emissions. Consumers benefit from cost savings and freedom from the hassles of owning a car.”

Zipcar members can reserve a car via phone, online or a mobile device. Zipcar rates include parking in the reserved spot, gas, insurance, 200 free kilometers daily and 24/7 roadside assistance.
