Until this year, Lexus team Zent Cerumo was competing into the Japanese Super GT series with an SC-based racecar. However, the series is now trying to align more with touring car regulations so they are not allowing the big V8s anymore.
That’s why Zent will be now competing with this baby you see in the picture above. It’s the race version of the newly revealed Lexus RC F, made mostly out of tubular frames and carbon fiber.

However, to meet the new regulations, it’s not powered by the upgraded 5-liter V8 that will be fitted to the road going car but by a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit. Don’t be sad though, it won’t feel like a hothatch at all because the idea is to match the V8’s power output. So expect demonic sounds and 500 horsepower coming out of them.

The Super GT series begins in April, so the teams are now testing their new cars in Japan. Zent is competing in the GT500 class, having Kohei Hirate and Yuji Tachikawa as drivers. Their car is that red fire-spitting beast in the picture above.

The same racing RC F model is used by a couple more teams and the basic version of it can be seen in the pictures bellow, as it was showcased this year at the Tokyo Auto Show.
