The Lamborghini Urus spearheaded a whole new market - exotic SUVs with excessive features and performance. But because it now faces many rivals, the Italian brand might have to update its money-making model more frequently than it would a regular supercar.
Lamborghini facelifts are a relatively subtle thing, but the Urus could be different. Besides being an AWD beast, it's also a family car of sorts. And while we don't know exactly if or when updates will be made, another SUV offers precious hints.
We're talking about the Bentley Bentayga, slightly less spicy but still a potent SUV with similar underpinnings. It receives a facelift in late 2020, roughly four years after its debut. So following that guideline, an updated Urus might be ready this year.
Much like the Bentayga took inspiration from the new Continental GT, so too does the Urus follow the latest Lamborghini design trends, at least in this rendering video by TheSketchMonkey. It's been argued before that the Sian is not only a play toy for the uber-rich but also a preview of new designs.
Thus, large Y-shaped headlights are added to the Urus, stretching further onto the nose than the current units. Slight changes are also happening to the bumper, skirts, and fender flares. Overall, the artist's goal of making the current Urus look outdated has been achieved. The only complaint we have is him using grayscale as a time-saver in his rendering.
A radical update could be bad, as customers have probably spent close to $2 billion to have a slice of this exclusive SUV pie (it was $1B at the end of 2019 if we multiply the Urus' base price with sales that year). On the other hand, it would generate even more hype.
Currently, the Urus is a 641 horsepower SUV that starts at $210,000 and can do zero to 60 mph (96 kph) in 3.2 seconds. While the 4.0-liter V8 is nearing the limit of what it can do on an emissions-friendly tune, Lamborghini can always slap on an electric motor for more power.
