Your Own Voice for Satellie Navigation

Back when the satellite navigation solution for cars was launched the choice was simple: you could opt for the voice of a woman or the voice of a man. Things got complicated as the devices got more complex and more options became available, like the voice of Snoop Doggy Dog telling you where to turn left.

Gramin International, an important part of the global satellite navigation industry, just pushed things further by launching a PC application which allows the user to record its own voice and create custom pre-recorded navigation prompts. The application can only be used on compatible Garmin devices.

"Voice Studio lets users customize their nüvi to give directions in familiar voices," said Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president for worldwide sales. "Whether it's a friend, a spouse, or the kids, now you'll always be able to take that special person with you wherever you travel. And you can share your customized voices with other nüvi owners, too."

In order to use this application all you have to do is click http://www.garmin.com/voicestudio and install it on your PC. After that you can record a few phrases and edit them using the Voice Studio application. Garmin says that for good quality you should use an external microphone.

After that part is done, the voice file will be loaded onto a Garmin navigation device. The producer says that it takes less than 30 minutes to get your voice onto your navigation, so if you own a Garmin device you should give it a shot.
