We were impressed with the way the 2016 BMW X1 looks like when we first saw it. It’s a definite step up compared to the old one, at least in the areas where most buyers look: design and interior space.
Of course, for someone that claims to be an enthusiast, it will be a drastic let down mostly because of the changes that happened on layers deeper than the immediate exterior shell. We’re talking about the chassis, engine, transmission and other tech bits.
The thing is that probably won’t matter that much in terms of sales anyway. According to BMW’s own research, about 80 percent of customers don’t actually know if their car is RWD or FWD so it makes little difference.
Furthermore, I have a sneaky suspicion that those that are actually looking for thrills behind the wheel are not the biggest crossover fans so they wouldn’t be affected all that much.
For anyone else, the new X1 will be a drastically improved car, especially from the design’s point of view. The wallpapers we prepared for you in the gallery below should prove a point.
One thing I didn’t like about the old X1 was its sharp nose and elongated bonnet. Considering it had a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine under it, the hood might have a logical explanation and I agree with it, but I’m pretty sure something could’ve been done about the front fascia.
It’s not just that it looked off, but it made the X1 a bit of a pariah in the X family, being the only one with a ‘different’ design. Things are finally falling into place now, with the new one.
