You’ll Have a Hard Time Distinguishing This 5 Series from an M5

When I first stumbled upon this car I was just about sure that this was an M5. However, upon closer inspection it turned out to be just a 5 Series. The owner decided that his car wasn’t good enough in stock form so he decided to do something about it.

On the outside, it came prepared with the M Sport package that today makes it hard in the first place to tell the difference between an M5 and a standard 5er. However, the easiest way to do so is to look for fog lights.

That’s because on M Sport models the air intakes at the sides are usually false and they can hold a fog light within them. On the M5 however they are actually used for various purposes.

Another easy clue to look for on a proper M car are the side gills that are missing on 5 Series models. This car however, had those on, adding to the confusion.

Finally, you can also look at the rear bumper. If it has four pipes you might be looking at an M5. However, with the new exhausts available out there even that might be easy to fake.

This car has it all. It has fog lights up front, side gills on the sides and four tailpipes at the back. Furthermore, it also has clear taillights like the ones you can get on your M car.

Other changes have been done to it as well to get you confused. The wheels come from BC Forged while beneath them hide Brembo 380 mm rotors along with 6-pot calipers up front and 4-pot ones round the back.

The biggest change can be felt inside though. That’s because of the German Maestro 3-way BMW edition speakers along with the DLS 12” subwoofer, Mosconi processor and DLS amplifiers. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen someone tune their audio system...
