Just over a month ago, during the 2022 Annual Tesla Shareholder Meeting (aka the Cyber Roundup), Elon Musk promised “some cool stuff happening on the supercharging front.”
The company deploys Superchargers wherever there’s the greatest need. Makes sense, right? And, since direct customer feedback is one of the best ways to improve a product, the Tesla CEO decided to do just that in order to expand the charging network.
“Maybe we should do an online poll for where should we put Superchargers…yeah, we’ll do that,” Musk said during the Cyber Roundup.
Now Tesla seems to be following up on that promise. Just yesterday, the company’s Twitter account used for “all things charging” put the word out regarding the upcoming poll that Musk spoke about. The only thing you need to do is to make yourself heard by replying to the tweet with a location of your choice.
And no, this is not another Twitter poll, but only the first step of it turning into one – and certainly not a guarantee you’ll see a Supercharger pop up at your desired location. So don’t get your hopes up just yet. That said, the comments with the most likes will get added to an actual poll, and only after that, there will be some locations that will probably get shortlisted, with Tesla deciding the next steps.
As Musk said, “some places are hard to get permits,” giving Malibu as an example, where the procedure took years. So nothing is guaranteed at this point, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
Currently, Tesla operates the largest global fast charging network, with more than 35,000 Superchargers worldwide, according to its website. That number will only go up, and if you’re lucky enough, maybe you’ll be among the few to contribute to it.
“If there isn’t a Supercharger in some place that you think is important, it probably will be there soon,” Musk also said during that conference. Well, cross your fingers.
