Great news for Tesla Model S and Model X owners as the carmaker has just released the new v7.1 software update, which includes the new summon feature, self-parking and new Autosteer and Autopark improvements.
The v7.1 also features improved HomeLink that now opens and closes your garage based on your proximity to home, real-time Supercharger availability checking, and auto-adjusting brightness for the center touchscreen.

Of all these improvements, maybe the new summoning feature is the most exciting one. Combined with the HomeLink update, this feature will allow owners to call their vehicles by pressing the center button on the key fob. The car will automatically open the garage door, drive itself out and come to the owner's location, all by itself.

Besides that, because some Tesla owners used the Autopilot inappropriately, this new update introduces new Autopilot safety features.

The Autopark has also been improved, as the car can now park itself in a perpendicular space. The company warns that if the car is instructed to park itself in a garage, it may not detect narrow items such as bicycles, things hanging from the rafters or objects below the front fascia such as skateboards. So before asking your car to park itself, make sure your garage is empty.

According to Teslarati, real-time visualization has been enhanced, as the dashboard now shows multiple vehicles on the road ahead and knows if it's a car, truck or motorcycle. The car will also slow itself down if you are on the right-hand lane on the highway and want to exit. Forward Collision Warning has been updated and now gives less false alarms while TACC is active.

The American company also added a new feature to the automatic door handles so that they won't unblock themselves until the appropriate button is pressed on the key fob. The owners will have to press once for the driver's door handle to be activated and twice for all the four doors. This feature was introduced mostly to ensure that unauthorized persons do not enter a car.

Trip planning services have also been improved and now notifications pop up when a particular Supercharger is unavailable due to various reasons. The new software update is now available for download wirelessly.
