After its introduction in March 2016, the Shelby GT-H Mustang by Hertz is now available to rent in select locations across the United States. Renting this black-and-gold pony doesn’t come cheap, though.
I don’t mean to beat around the bush, so here’s what's what: $399 per day. It is a lot of money, I’ll give you that, but then again, the Shelby GT-H has lots of pedigree. It all started in 1966 when Hertz contacted the one and only Carroll Shelby to develop an exclusive variant of the Ford Mustang.

Compared to the 306 horsepower rent-a-racer from five decades ago, the 2016 Shelby GT-H Mustang delivers 435 horsepower on 93-octane jungle juice. That’s exactly the same output as the Ford Mustang GT Fastback, the donor vehicle for the Shelby GT-H Mustang.

“The 1966 Ford Shelby GT350-H became a legend from the moment it was introduced,” declared Joe Conway, the Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and chief executive officer of Shelby American. “We worked closely with Ford Performance to make the 2016 Shelby GT-H the most exciting Mustang ever to wear the iconic Hertz black-and-gold livery.”

Hertz mentions that 140 units of the Shelby GT-H Mustang will be distributed at 17 airport rental locations. More specifically, in places located in or near Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Orlando, Seattle, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Phoenix.

Between five and 15 units of the Shelby GT-H Mustang will be available at any location. Besides the fancy livery, the V8-powered pony boasts a Ford Performance handling pack, Ford Performance cat-back exhaust system, carbon fiber splitter, and a Shelby hood laden with air extractors.

Spoiler alert for the keener drivers among you: all Shelby GT-H Mustangs from Hertz come with a six-speed automatic transmission, not a good old stick shift. You can boo and hiss now.
