Yet Another Messaging App Stops Working in the Newest Android Auto

Google has released a new Android Auto version a couple of weeks ago, and it now looks that some aren’t getting exactly the experience they expected after installing it.
While a number of users complained that Pulse SMS, a very popular texting app on Android, no longer works in Android Auto, others are coming across a similar problem with Signal, a messaging service that many use because of its advanced privacy capabilities.

More specifically, it now looks like Signal is being listed as an unsupported app when receiving messages, and it appears that this happens both with the old and the new versions of Android Auto. The latest version of Signal also hits the same problem.

Signal’s struggles on Android Auto aren’t new, as similar problems have also been experienced earlier this year, but they were eventually corrected with a software update.

At this point, it’s not known if the problem has already been acknowledged, but as usual, Google is expected to release a new Android Auto version later this month, so hopefully, a fix would be included.

For the time being, the only workaround is to downgrade both the Signal app and Android Auto to earlier versions. This can be done by removing the apps and then using the dedicated Signal and Android Auto APK installers to deploy a previous version.

While this isn’t confirmed to be working for everyone, if the problems are indeed caused by the most recent versions of the apps, downgrading should pretty much bring things back to normal.

Others have also tried to remove the data and clear the cache of the Android Auto app, but unsurprisingly, this didn’t change anything. So for now, downgrading the apps appears to be the only way to go, albeit you should make sure that you also remove the cache before doing it.
