Yard Built Yamaha XSR900 Monkeebeast by Wrenchmonkees

The Danish Wrenchmonkees duo is back with a bang in the Yard Built movement, and their latest creation is the Monkeebeast. Don't let the "monkee" in its name fool you, this build is nowhere near monkey bikes but a full-on MT-07-based custom scrambler.

We say MT-07, because the XSR900 Monkeebeast is a spin-off from the naked middleweight Yamaha, and not in a way that wants to downplay the XSR. Being an authentic Wrenchmonkees bike, the Monkeebeast is, of course, draped in black, the signature color of the Copenhagen shop.

Even though most of us were expecting a brat bike or a cafe-racer, the Wrenchmonkees went the extra mile to deliver a no-nonsense urban beast that can easily lose its pursuers when leaving the asphalt behind.

That's right, the Wrenchmonkees built a true dual-sport beast, equipped with new 17" Borrani wheels show with aggressive Continental TKC knobby tires that feel at home both on tarmac and in the mud.

A K-Tech shock replaces the stock rear suspension, and is complemented by Gilles Tooling chain adjusters and a TRW rear rotor. Gilles Tooling also supplied enduro footrests for the rearsets, while the brake lines were upgraded to steel braided ones. Magura supplies the handlebar, now accommodating a Nissin radial master and Biltwell Renegade grips.

A smaller, MT-03-ish headlight and a LED taillight are also part of the modifications, alongside a bespoke Wrenchmonkees seat and Motogadget pushbuttons for a clean look. An SC Project exhaust and custom aluminium fenders and engine guard made in-house round up this build.

The parts made by Wrenchmonkees will soon become available for purchase, in the good Yamaha Yard Built tradition. They are bolt-on add-ons to the XSR900, so installing them will not require any hacking, sawing, or welding, but for the pricing you'll have to wait a bit.
