Yamaha’s Yard Built program started the year with a gorgeous ‘Faster Wasp’ built by Roland Sands Design to pay homage to Kenny Robert’s iconic TZ750. Now it looks like we might end the year with a bit more rugged project - meet the Brat Style SCR950.
For those who haven’t heard the news, the Yamaha SCR950 was unveiled earlier this month, as a scrambler version of the XV950, and it looks like Go Takamine of Brat Style is the first tuner to touch up the new model.

"The SCR950 Scrambler is a natural evolution of the Sport Heritage range," said Yamaha Motor Europe Marketing Coordinator Cristian Barelli. "It's an iconic style of motorcycle that fits perfectly into our offering. Today the desire to keep going when the road runs out is more and more common, so the SCR950 is made to let the adventure continue. Go Takamine has perfectly captured the spirit of the scrambler, and his influence and style is clear in the build.”

To built this custom bike, also known as the ‘Chequered Scrambler,' Takamine cleaned up the front end, added wider handlebars along with a smaller headlamp. The tank is also new and comes with a Brat Style engraved fuel cap. The custom air filter cover follows the same recipe.

The hand-made parts list on the Chequered Scrambler continues with the seat, fenders, side covers and exhaust pipes which are now stacked and routed only on the right side of the motorcycle.

A custom rear suspension by Works Performance was added for more travel and ground clearance while chunky off-road tires replaced the more standard ones on the base model.

“I really like the SCR950,” said Go Takamine. “It is powerful, comfortable, and very easy to handle. I had great fun riding it on the street, but also on an unpaved dirt road. I also like the coloring; it takes some design cues from the old Yamaha dirt bikes. It was an enjoyable challenge to customize it! As usual, I fabricated most of the key body components to make this into a “Brat Style” machine.”

A special ‘making of’ clip was released along with the custom bike, and you can watch it below.
