Yamamoto Replaces Chandhok in Hungary Also

Sakon Yamamoto's $5 million in sponsorship for Hispania Racing F1 Team seems to pay off this year, as the Japanese driver has been confirmed for his 3rd consecutive Grand Prix in 2010. He will again take the place of Karun Chandhok in the HRT lineup, this time in the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix, at the Hungaroring.

The first time Yamamoto took the cockpit – race wise – of a HRT prepared car was in the British Grand Prix, when he replaced Bruno Senna. Back then, team principal Colin Kolles wanted to show the Brazilian driver a lesson – the leaked e-mail story – and benched him for the Silverstone weekend.

Two weeks later, Yamamoto was chosen to drive alongside Senna, in Germany, confirming the rumors that Chandhok is running out of funds for the remainder of the 2010 season. The situation seems to have worsened for the Indian driver, as he will now stay in the Hispania garage for a second consecutive weekend.

I can’t wait to go back to the Hungaroring as I know the circuit already very well from my Formula 1 races with Super Aguri, Spyker F1 and with ART in GP2 series,” said Yamamoto in a HRT F1 preview for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The races there are always very tough because there is no big gap between the corners. You need a good braking stability and good traction on the car. I keep on pushing for another challenge and I hope that we are luckier than in Hockenheim.”

Chandhok will have plenty of work to do in F1's traditional summer break. While many of his colleagues will take some time off racing and relax, he will try to secure enough funds to keep him in the HRT seat for a few more races this season. Otherwise, Yamamoto will become a regular for the second half of the season.

As far as the latest media reports go, Senna's seat with the Spanish team is still secure.
