Using motorcycles to add a bit of flavor to certain songs is not a new thing, but having the sounds of a bike sampled and used as actual phrases is something truly interesting.
Youtube artist Big Fresh Mouf thought about using some of the sounds of a Yamaha R6, plus others he made using various other bike-related gear. Since it's always easier to make a cover version than a brand new song, he chose "Can't Feel My Face", a track belonging to The Weekend.
It's really nice to see the creative way Big Fresh Mouf uses the sounds of the revved engine, bumps in the tank or the tires, kickstand or shifter. A motorcycle helmet was also used in the song, as the click it makes when the face shield is being closed seemed to be a good addition to the beat.
Independent artists Kinna Grannis joins the fun
Big Fresh Mouf had independent artist Kianna Grannis perform the vocal parts in the song and even ride a Harley-Davidson in the video. The Harley, however, doesn't seem to be part of the soundtrack.
The lasts time we saw a Harley "sing" was back in December 2013, when the MoCo posted a nice (and slightly manipulated) video of a cruiser humming the "Silent Night" theme.
Some random guy asked why isn't there some hard rock or metal song cover using bike sounds, as these two genres seem to go hand in hand with motorcycling traditionally. Well, we're positive that someone with plenty of time to spare and patience could create, sample and then mix a song using sounds made by motorcycles.
But as rock, and especially metal songs have melodic lines that are infinitely more complex than pop ones, this endeavor is much, much harder a task. Even though we'd definitely love to hear Motorhead's Ace of Spades or Judas Priest's Night Crawler in such a version!
