Even though Yamaha’s brand-new YXZ1000R three-cylinder SxS is a machine engineered to tackle sand dunes and muddy trails in the woods, it can also cross ponds, at least if the rider is brave enough.
We don’t have too much info on how things escalated to this level, and we DO suspect there was a good dose of either "I dare you to..." or "Just watch me do this" involved. We could also be thinking about a bet, but it’s just hard to believe that someone would risk their YXZ1000R this way.

Regardless of what the true story behind this footage may be, one thing is certain: the Yamaha YXZ1000R is one of the finest two-seater SxSs that saw the light of day recently. Its new engine delivers around 83 horsepower in the 5th gear according to some dyno runs, and apparently there are already turbo kits that are said to almost double that figure.

Despite that, the base trim of the YXZ1000R makes it a sought-after machine, loaded with pretty much the best Yamaha has to offer. One of the neat things about this SxS is that it is delivered ex-works with FOX Podium RC2 shocks that are quite competitive to start with.

Yamaha says that the YXZ1000R can be ridden effortlessly at 80 mph (129 km/h), but we found folks who say that, with a little tuning, it can do 100 mph (160 km/h) on the right terrain. This side-by-side is, by far, one of the niftiest vehicles in its class and its base price is also consistent with such an attribute.

With prices that start just under $20,000 (€23,495) in Europe, this is more of an extravagant off-road fun machine than one that’s worth sinking at the bottom of a pond. Still, the YXZ1000R got the (crazy) job done and we believe that such videos are only going to boost the sales.
