It looks like retro looks are back with a bang, but this time we're not going to talk about the Ducati Scrambler. The blast from the past comes from Deus Ex Machina's Italian shop and is a custom project based on the XV960 cruiser, or the Star Bolt, as it is marketed across the pond in the USA.
The Yamaha XV950 D-Side is a benchmark of simplicity and practicality, while at the same time exuding cool, luxurious looks that have been achieved with bolt-on parts, solely. The main purpose of the Yard Built program is to deliver actual modding kits that can be replicated and sold to end users. Since not everyone is a bike builder, common riders being able to build it in their yard is paramount.

Not a single cut was made to build the XV950 D-Side

This machine harnesses inspiration from both the boat wold and the Belle Epoque, hence the edgy, yet mellow lines, the use of wood and ample shapes. Deus used their own aluminium tank and fenders, while employing a custom-built rear subframe to raise the seat to a higher position. Alcantara leather upholstery adds a particularly cool note to the bike, too.

Custom Deus handcrafted aluminium air intake and an SC-Project exhaust system are also added to the game, as well as motocross handlebars and an aftermarket Motogadget speedo.

The sidecar is a nifty mixture of retro boat and steampunk design, and the Kaos Design sober paint adds to this distopic vibe. We'd rather had D-Side instead of Yamaha logo on the sidecar and avoid the slight disturbance in the retro force. The  surfboard rack between the bike and the sidecar is also optional.

One of the even cooler thing is that customers can order both the full sidecar kit and the bike-only modding parts, and this means that the D-Side will make even more people happy. Since not everybody is a fan of sidecars, allowing customers to transform their Yamaha XV950, but retain the two-wheeled thrills.
