Yamaha Wishes Jorge Lorenzo a Happy Birthday on His 29th Anniversary

Three-time MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo turned 29 yesterday (May 4) and Yamaha could not let this anniversary pass without the traditional "happy birthday video." The footage was uploaded on Yamaha MotoGP YouTube channel and features the members of his crew wishing him all the best and encouraging the Mallorcan to fight for this year's title.

When we first saw this video, we noticed that the Yamaha MotoGP team principal Lin Jarvis was not in it. So we went back to watch the similar video the other Yamaha team made for Valentino Rossi's birthday earlier this year and saw that Mr. Jarvis opted to stay out of that one, too, so any shadow of suspicion went away.

2016 is the ninth season Jorge Lorenzo spends aboard a Yamaha motorcycle in the premier class and, at least for the upcoming two seasons, it will also be the last.

The Spaniard announced recently that he signed a two-season contract with Ducati, just like his current teammate Valentino Rossi did back in the day. However, it looks like the prospects are now much brighter for Lorenzo than they were for Rossi when he donned the red livery, as the current Desmosedici GP is a far superior bike compared to the old one.

Lorenzo has three MotoGP world titles under the belt, in 2010, 2012 and 2015, having finished three seasons in the runner-up position (2009, 2011, 2013), third in 2014 and fourth in 2008, with the most race wins, nine, in 2010. He also won two 250cc titles in 2006 and 2007, in the two years before stepping up to MotoGP, but has no 125cc titles to his name.

The Mallorcan took the start in 236 Grand Prix races, of which he won 62. Also, he has ridden to 62 pole positions and 138 Grand Prix podiums. Currently, he is second in the world standing, with 65 points and a 17-point gap from the leader Marc Marquez, while Rossi is third with 58 points.

MotoGP action resumes tomorrow at Le Mans in France, with the first two Free Practice sessions and the race on Sunday.
