While when it comes to illegally copying the design and styling of scooters, the Chinese manufacturers are one of the most common perpetrators, Yamaha has just won a legal battle against not one, but two Japanese manufacturers.
The two other companies, Eco Trade Co. and Taiseienter Co. have been marketing and selling electric scooters which they claimed were their original design.

Even though the true original design belongs to the gas-powered 50cc Gear scooter launched in 2007, one needs no industrial design preparation to find the similarities, pardon my mild word.

The new scooters are electric, but this made little difference for the judges, who ruled in favor of Yamaha.

Both companies are now forced to cease the marketing and sales of said scooters, and financial compensations are also expected. No sums have been named, but Masmoto believes the compensation will be a rather symbolic one.
