The Yamaha VMAX Carbon Special Edition retains the tech specs of the base version, so you’ll be riding a no-nonsense 1,679cc liquid-cooled V4 beast which can produce 200 horsepower at 9,000 revs, and a peak torque of 166.8 Nm (123 lb-ft) already at 6,500 rpm. The transmission retains the 5-speed constant mesh architecture and is mated to the traditional shaft drive. And because the VMAX is all about a savage feel, the multiple disc clutch has an automotive-like diaphragm spring.

Superbike-derived technology for asphalt-scorching performance plus a bevy of carbon parts

VMAX already incorporates a lot of technology derived from Yamaha’s extensive and successful racing program, and the Special Edition doesn’t stray from this path. Lightweight engine covers shave off weight and add a nifty aesthetic contrast, to the bike, while sport bike brakes put a lot of control at the rider’s disposal. The dual 320mm wave front rotors are squeezed by massive radially-mounted 6-piston calipers, complemented by a 298mm disc in the rear.

The 52mm forks, wheels and all the rest are identical to the base version, with the addition of special carbon fiber parts, such as front and rear fenders, side covers, tank cover and the dedicated Akrapovic high-performance shorty exhausts. The bike should start shipping this month, so if you fancy going all special with your new VMAX, you can ask your nearest Yamaha dealer about the price.
