Yamaha Updates the YZF-R6 for 2010

Since its first introduction, in 1999, the YZF-R6 received several updates, but the most notable change was bringing the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and slight changes in design. For 2010, Yamaha applies the same minor changes treatment to its middleweight sportsbike, only this time with a greater effect on the bike’s performances.

Scheduled to enter the worldwide market in January 2010, the new Yamaha YZF-R6 comes with a starting MSRP of $10,490, and will be available in Raven Black (slightly changed), Pearl White and Team Yamaha Blue/White.

But as we said, aside from getting the customary BNG (Bold New Graphics) treatment, the R6 includes the YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle), an advanced fly-by-wire throttle system, a revised ECU and a new 100 mm longer muffler for increased performance.

Yamaha also optimized the intake funnels and airbox by adding the YCC-I (Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake), while the diameter of the exhaust pipe is changed and the muffler is 100mm longer. All is said to give improved performance in the low-mid range while maintaining its current high rpm performance.

The 2010 YZF-R6 also got a revised chassis, with a magnesium sub frame, titanium exhaust, and Controlled-Fill die-cast aluminum chassis parts. According to the Japanese manufacturer, all these changes that were applied to “The 2009 AMA Daytona 200 Champion and this year’s best selling supersport,” are set to make the new R6 the best in its segment...
