It looks like the rumors on Yamaha surfacing their new 3-cylinder bikes were true, as the Japanese manufacturer has just unwrapped the all-new FZ-09 machine (MT-09 in Europe).
We're looking at a very nifty 847cc 4-valve triple which produces 115HP and is capable to reach 85 Nm (63 lb-ft) of torque, with a crossplane architecture, just like the YZF-R1. Head-integrated injectors allow for smaller and lighter throttle bodies, and Yamaha says that a more precise fuel delivery is also on the menu.
This naked machine comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and left-side chain final drive and an off-set swingarm pivot outside the frame (MT-01-style) for a narrower chassis. A compact 3-into-1 underbelly exhaust breathes out the gases and keels the rear end clean and tidy.
The Yamaha FZ-09 is also on the light side, with 188 kg (415 lbs) wet and 171 kg (377) dry. The bike in the pics looks nice, with only one exception: the seat is fugly and we kind of expected something more 2014-ish and not a flat, '80-like saddle. C'mon Yamaha, don't ruin such a nice bike...
