Yamaha pulled the wraps off their new naked quarter-liter machine, the MT-25. Truth be told, whatever photos have surfaced before the official launch don't do it justice. The new studio pics show a bike that's less "made for Indonesia" than we suspected and will most likely appeal to European riders, as well, should it arrive in this market, after all.
The MT-25 will started selling in Indonesia this very month, for a price of 46 million Indonesian rupiah (thanks Dingduck). Using today's generic currency rates, this price translates to $3,450 or €3,060, which are both very appealing.

However, if the machine makes it in "many countries around the world, including developed markets," as Yamaha's press release says, we can expect it to sell for higher prices.

Edgy looks for a 35 horsepower naked bike

Even so, the Yamaha MT-25 promises to be a strong competitor in the naked small-displacement segment, and the fact that Iwata went a long way to add edgy looks that mimic their bigger bikes might be a strong selling point.

The liquid-cooled, injected parallel twin quarter-liter lump produces 35.5 hp at 12,000 rpm and a peak torque of 22.6 Nm (16.6 lb-ft) ar 10,000 revs. The transmission is a 6-speed manual one, and power is sent to the 140mm rear wheel by means of a chain drive.

Single-disc brakes provide stopping power, and the cast 17" rims add serious sportiveness to the overall attire. With a 14-liter (3.7 US gal) fuel tank, the MT-25 is supposed to offer plenty of range, especially as the bike weighs only 165 kg (364 lb).

The first photos show a nice chin spoiler, but we don't know yet if this is aftermarket trim or standard equipment. Either way, the biggest question is whether this bike is all we get from Yamaha, or we're in for an MT-3 any time soon. Honestly, we do hope there's a 321cc version on its way.
