Just like I suspected when I first watched this Yamaha video teaser, on the new machines was the three-wheeled scooter named Tricity. A new mobility solution for the busy urban areas, the Tricity is also advertised as a nifty bike for longer hauls, including reaching scenic countryside locations.
With a new 3-wheel chassis, the Yamaha Tricity is both slender and lightweight, adding to the maneuverability and city-slicing factors. The dual front wheels come with a parallelogram link and independent telescopic stanchions and this means a leaning architecture. Needless to say that riding the Yamaha Tricity gets as close as possible to riding a casual two-wheeler, but with the added ground contact independent suspensions provide.

The Yamaha Tricity boasts the Unified Braking System, with twin 220mm front rotors and a 230mm rear one, all with optimized braking force distribution when operating either one or both levers. The Tricity is powered by an 125cc single-cylinder engine which delivers 10.4 Nm (7.7 lb-ft) of torque at 5500 rpm and a peak power just under 11 hp at 9000 rpm.

Wet sump lubrication, electric starting, fuel injection and an automatic transmission are also on the menu for the new Yamaha Tricity. The scoot weighs in at 152 kg (335 lbs) wet, with a 6.6-liter (1.74 US gal) fuel tank. The seat height is 780mm (30.7 inches).

No price was mentioned at the time of writing, but Yamaha says the sales will debut in Thailand, and the Tricity will be available in Europe and Japan this year, too. Unfortunately, no word about the Tricity making it into the North American markets…
