Yamaha Super Tenere Competition White Announced

It looks like Yamaha’s new adventure touring bike, the XT1200Z Super Tenere, so far available in blue or black only, will be receiving a new color scheme this spring. Dubbed Competition White, the new color in the line-up celebrates the company's 50 years in racing.

The company's adventure heritage was recently underpinned by Helder Rodregez, who secured a very brave 3rd position in the 2011 Dakar rally on his WR450F.

The adventure tourer is powered by a liquid-cooled 1199cc parallel cranking out 110hp (80.9kW) at 7250rpm, which is more than its rival’s, the BMW GS (105hp). However, the white-colored Super Tenere also features an Akrapovic exhaust, so that power figure could be a little higher.

Aside from the Akrapovic exhaust with carbon shroud and new color scheme, the Super Tenere comes with a host of other interesting features, including side-mounted radiators, wide-ratio six-speed transmission, Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCCC-T) which adds things like an adjustable three-mode traction control system.

The bike’s traction control system offers three operating modes. Firstly, TCS1 is the standard mode and will intervene whenever the rear wheel starts losing grip. Secondly, TCS2 has a lesser effect to allow small slippage of the back during an off-road style riding and last, the system can be completely disabled (OFF).

The new Super Tenere comes equipped with selectable injection maps (D-mode): the Sport map causes an instant response of acceleration for maximum performance while Touring Map provides a smoother power delivery.

Unlike last year, when the new model was launched via an Internet reservation system, this year the bike can be ordered in the normal way, through the local Yamaha dealer.
