Yamaha and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are recalling around 100 Big Bear ATV units in the model year 2012.
The CPSC received complaints about the front shock absorbers of said vehicles breaking apart during normal use. Yamaha has records of 14 such incidents, but luckily there was no injury reported.
Yamaha advises the owners of 2012 Big Bear 400 ATVs to refrain from using them until the problem is fixed. The manufacturer has already started to get in touch with the registered users for replacing the faulty suspension elements. The owners and riders of these quads are also advised to contact Yamaha as soon as possible and schedule a free repair.
The affected models are YFM40FBBGR, YFM40FBBL and YFM40FGBGR, and users who are not sure what machine they have can check either the side panels or the VIN number stamped on the frame just behind the front left wheel. If they see letter "C" in the 10th position of the VIN, then their ATV is a 2012 model.
