The Indonesian guys at iwanbanaran.com published this photo and claim this bikes is the upcoming Yamaha R25. Well, this bike looks nothing like the R25 Valentino Rossi showed back in November last year, but until better photos surface, we’re willing to believe it.
In late November last year, Yamaha surfaced a nifty video showing Rossi riding a quarter-liter sport bike with solid M1 design cues, so we kind of new that Yamaha is finally making credible steps to launch a new competitor for Honda and Kawasaki’s 250cc and 300cc bikes.

5 months form that moment, the quarter-liter Yamaha sport bike is back in the spotlight, even though things are a bit fuzzier now. I mean, what was supposed to be the R25, might actually be marketed as R3, since Yamaha has registered trademarks for both YZF-R3 and R3 names, in the US and Europe and things make sense.

As far as we can tell now, the R3 particle makes sense in a way that it might mislead draw customers into believing they’re getting a cc-per-cc rival for the new Ninja 300 or the upcoming CBR300. Not sure if this is the case, but it was more than once when we heard that Yamaha is kind of late in the quarter-liter game, and by the time they actually build a 250cc bike, the category might have already changed. Which, truth be told, has happened, as the straight-up 250 sport bikes got a displacement increase.

Now, it’s all down to a waiting game, as more photos will most likely surface soon. The bike looks pretty close to its final commercial shape, so we might safely presume it will not be too long until we know more on Yamaha’s new sporty bike.
