Yamaha MT-09 Triple CROSS OVER
Here we go, showing you yet another concept Oberdan Bezzi has come up with. Like many of this earlier design, the Triple Cross Over is a bike which utilizes the new triple-cylinder engine of the MT-09, but this time we’re looking at a killer machine with real off-road attitude… and wire spoked wheels! The Triple Tenere and Worldcrosser were also awesome concepts, so maybe we're lucky this time.
Yamaha is rumored to surface a new sub-liter bike this fall, either in Germany at Intermot or in Italy at the EICMA. While rumors speak about the return of the TDM, with a new approach to the segment, it would be simply glorious seeing the house of Iwata delivering a bike engineered for real off-road use, with all the perks of the new engine and a frame tweaked for tackling rocky trails and bad roads.

With many of the current enduro-touring machines going bigger and heavier (KTM 1290 Super Adventure, BWM’s R1200GS or even Yamaha’s XT1200Z Super Tenere), the sub-liter niche is almost void, with Triumph Tiger 800XC and BMW’s F800GS being about all there is left in this segment.

Doubtlessly, Yamaha know this situation, but it remains to see whether the Iwata top hats will consider that such a bike is lucrative enough for them. Looking around, there are a lot of guys who are dreaming about the old Africa Twin and who would be ready to spend their money on a real adventure bike which didn’t weigh “a ton”, would be able to withstand the demands of tougher off-roading.

Oberdan Bezzi’s MT-09 Triple CROSS OVER Concept shows enough suspension travel for heavier loads and rough terrain, while the ground clearance could be improved with a slight redesign of the collectors and the addition of a skid plate. Cue a pannier system, crash bars and a Vario windscreen, and this machine is ready to stray from the beaten path. Hopefully Yamaha has Oberdan Bezzi in their news feed
