Yamaha MT-09 Faster Sons Imagined in Roberts, Agostini and Rossi Liveries

Yamaha is not too biased when it comes to the custom machines builders create based on their bikes. After the successful Yard Built retro bike-based custom project, a new one kicked off. Faster Sons is aimed at designing custom rides that start off as modern motorcycles, and Shinya Kimura was the first builder to deliver a Faster Son.

While we know that other builders are already working on new Faster Sons machines, here's a three-way offering from the Italian designer Oberdan Bezzi. Some fellows who imagine how new motorcycles could look like often forget that a successful idea also needs to be feasible and fairly easily to duplicate.

Oberdan Bezzi is a master at this game, and his most recent three ideas are based on the Yamaha MT-09, but only use (virtual) bolt-on parts. Obiboi somehow manages to introduce massive changes on a visual with only a few pre-fabricated components that replace the stock ones. Even though designing, testing, and eventually manufacturing such a series-produced kit may be a difficult undergoing at first, these machines could become reality.

Few smartly-designed parts make a huge difference and can be installed in your garage

Yamaha could definitely use such ideas for special, limited-edition modding kits this year, as the house of Iwata celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Offering three distinct liveries that pay tribute to three of Yamaha's most iconic and successful figures could work wonders among the customers, both existing and future ones.

Being able to transform a plain, all-stock MT-09 into a bike proudly showing off Kenny Roberts' yellow livery, the retro white/red/yellow color scheme of Giacomo Agostini, or the world-famous neon yellow 46 racing number on a blue canvas 9-time champions Valentino Rossi is definitely a thing a lot of people dream about.

Ago's bike is the only one that comes with a front cowl and mini windscreen, whereas the other two sport a simple round headlight, a traditional solution in the naked bike segment. If you look at these photos closely you'll also notice that the tank and tail section are identical , and the color choice is the only thing that makes them look so different. Smart, huh?

Of course, powder coated rims in matching colors are the next step, plus that front half of the front mudguard that needs to follow the main visual theme. An assortment of aftermarket exhausts is probably even easier to get hold of, as many manufacturers would gladly make generous offers for the MT-09.

All in all, such anniversary machines are not that hard to build. Considering the affordable prices the MT-09 go for, these special, limited-edition kits would not leave a burning hole in the customer's wallet, while providing a huge ego boost.
