Yamaha Drops YZF-R125 Price in Australia

The Australian division of Yamaha announced a consistent price reduction (AUD2,000) on its smallest sportbike, the YZF-R125, which now retails for no more than AUD5,999. Apparently, the reduction has come as Yamaha prepares to launch a new entry-level machine onto the Australian market, the 150cc YZF-R15.

The AUD5,999 price tag is available only for 2009 models, and will only last as long as stock is available.

The YZF-R125 has a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-valve, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine, coupled with a six-speed gearbox, Deltabox frame, aluminium swingarm, and lightweight five-spoke wheels. The bike comes available in Burning Blue or Sunset Red color schemes.

On the other hand, the learner-friendly YZF-R15 comes available in two color schemes, namely racing blue or midnight black. he new baby YZF is powered by a 149.8cc single-cylinder fuel injected engine features four-valves, a single overhead cam, wet sump lubrication and has a 10.4:1 compression ratio.

A forged aluminium piston is in residence within the all-aluminium DiASil cylinder, which ensures improved thermal dynamics along with light weight and better reliability.

Paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, the lightweight bike weighs just 131 kg (289 lbs) wet. The manufacturer did not, however, reveal any performance details, but there is no doubt that it will come as a strong competitor.

The bike also comes with a 12-liter (3.17-gallon) fuel tank and a seat height of 790mm. The Japanese motorcycle maker also promises its new model has "a comfortable riding position for both pilot and pillion."
