Well, that's one nice dream which is not going to come true in 2013: Yamaha officials have denied the rumored new quarter-liter motorcycle to be unveiled and delivered next year.
With a large number of bikes in the 250cc class being already sold throughout the world and the small-to-medium displacement segment on a rise, we were all expecting Yamaha to make a move. Honda and Kawasaki made it, KTM followed in their shoes and there are a lot of other brands to release such bikes in early 2013.
So Yamaha coming up with a machine in the vein of a potential “YZF250”or “FZ250” was only natural. And since Yamaha already have a strong base in India, much like other major builders have or plan to develop (even Harley-Davidson), things seemed all set up. However, Yamaha India CEO Hiroyuki Suzuki declared that the company will focus on scooter development in 2013.
There will be a quarter-liter Yamaha motorcycle in 2014, a parallel twin-powered one, producing around 30 hp, Suzuki added. With no further details on this segment we can only speculate that 2014 will bring a fierce battle in this segment as more manufacturers in India, Europe, Japan and even the US are already munching on their 250cc (or so) projects.
