For almost four decades, the Washington-state based outdoor accessory company has been reinventing the way people travel both on and off-road. Yakima’s products can be found on virtually every model that has even the faintest link to the great outdoors... now even if their owners are not that handy with their e-bike or just can’t seem to abandon the smartphone even in the middle of the wilderness.
The latest products launched by the company, the OnRamp e-bike hitch bike ramp and the CBX Solar premium solar-charging cargo box, cater to that exact niche. They could even do it together, because there’s nothing stopping the consumer from equipping both on its SUV of choice.
Yakima’s new OnRamp system fits standard-sized hitches (1.25- and 2-inch receivers from Class I and II, with up to 2,000 or 3,500 lb. pull weight) and comes to help with that awkward loading of those rather heavy e-bikes.
According to the company it’s a simple and efficient e-bike loading system that makes it easier to load even the heaviest of bikes. The secret to Yakima’s OnRamp has to do with the integrated ramp that lets the rider simply roll the e-bike into its own place, but it also sports adjustable trays and standardized frame clamps – so it can fit a variety of bike designs.
Best of all, each tray has a load capacity of up to 66 lbs. (30 kg), so there’s no need to detach the battery before loading up. The OnRamp system is available to order (currently out of stock) and costs $549 irrespective of the hitch size.
Yakima's other new product, the CBX Solar is a bit more expensive at $1,299 (and marked “coming soon”) – but it also comes with an even greater load capacity as a cargo box. It’s also addressed to people who love all things electrified, as it also includes “a first-of-its-kind integrated solar panel” created in partnership with Sunflare.
It incorporates a solar panel with a 36W/5-volt output to make sure you remain safe and connected to the world even during the most extreme off-grid adventures. Thanks to its two USB ports, the accessory won’t require any power from the vehicle (if there’s enough sunshine, of course) and can power up anything from smartphones, action cameras, tablets, or camping lanterns.
