The most efficient Volkswagen ever made arrives at one of the most efficient factories in the United States. The XL1 hybrid car with a carbon fiber chassis has made its US debut at the factory during the 23rd Annual Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) Conference.
“The XL1 offers a glimpse into Volkswagen’s present and future eco-mobility capabilities, and highlights the ultimate successes of ‘Thinking Blue’,” said Oliver Schmidt, General Manager of the Engineering and Environmental Office (EEO), Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “Volkswagen is proud to debut this ultra-fuel-efficient vehicle before the Society of Environmental Journalists, a group that shares in our commitment to environmental stewardship.”
The revolutionary XL1 is claimed to be the most efficient car on the planet. It's powered by a combination of electric motor and a 48 PS two-cylinder TDI engine. It's also very light and with a drag coefficient of 0.19 it's as slippery as a fish. As a result, cruising at a constant 62 mph requires only 8.4 PS.
