xDrive Coming to BMW 3 Series Touring This March

Following a press release by BMW on Friday, we can now confirm that the 3 Series BMW Touring will be available with the xDrive system starting with March 2013.

According to BMW, we'll be seeing the 320i, 328i, 335i, 320d and the 330d in xDrive versions for the Touring.

The 320i xDrive Touring will be available with a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic transmission. This time the differences in fuel consumption will be minimal and so are those regarding the top speed and acceleration (0.1 liters more in combined fuel consumption and 0.1 seconds slower in the 0 to 100 acceleration time compared to the ).

The 328i xDrive Touring will be also available with both gearboxes and will be quicker by a 0.1 second than the rear wheel drive version. The fuel consumption is 0.3 liters more than the standard 328i's 6.8 l/100km.

The 335i xDrive Touring will be faster than the rear wheel drive version by 0.4 seconds when accelerating to 100 km/h. The top speeds are the same, BMW deciding to limit the cars at 250 km/h. As for fuel consumption, the xDrive will be more economical but just by 0.2 liters for each 100 km.

The 320d will be available with both the EfficientDynamics pack, in which case it will boast 163 HP and the xDrive version with 184 HP both of them having as standard the 6-speed manual gearbox and the 8-speed Steptronic atuomatic gearbox as an option.

As expected, the xDrive version will be quicker, going from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds while the EfficientDynamics version will do that in 8.3 seconds. The fuel consumption numbers are in favor of the latter with a combined total of 4.3 l/100 km instead of 4.9 l/100 km.

The 330d Touring will start being delivered in the xDrive version with the 8-speed automatic gearbox starting with next month. It will have a 3-liter 6-cylinder diesel engine with a total output of 258 HP and 560 Nm thanks to BMW's TwinPower Turbo technology with variable-geometry turbocharger and Common Rail direct injection with solenoid valve injectors.

The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time will be 5.4 seconds, while top speed is 250 km/h and the combined fuel consumption is reported at around 5.4 l/100 with 142 g/km CO2 emissions.
