WRC Promoter Postpone 2011 Calendar Announcement

Although everybody is trying to secure the details of the upcoming season as soon as possible – manufacturers, calendar, technical rules, etc – it seems the World Rally Championship is holding back at announcing the 2011 schedule.

Being that International Sportsworld Communicators (ISC) will take over as global promoter of the WRC starting next year, it was only natural to assume the new company would take a bit longer to get accustomed with how the WRC caravan will travel from one end of the globe to another in order to meet its fans.

In addition, the fact that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has a new leadership in the person of former WRC team boss Jean Todt is another reason why the calendar for 2011 needs to be evaluated in detail before seeing daylight.

Apparently, the new promoter doesn't think very high of the deals that were sealed before its arrival in the WRC, meaning the 5-year deals signed by the WRC promoters with some of the nations hosting the rallies. Therefore, the ISC chairman Neil Duncanson revealed that his team is preparing an out-of-this world calendar two years from now, which will probably include an event in Abu Dhabi.

According to British site Autosport, Duncanson emphasized the role of the FIA in helping the ISC make the sport more popular under the new regime, and insisted that he and Jean Todt are on the same page when it comes to improving the sport in the upcoming future.

Our meeting with Jean Todt was very encouraging, we're on the same page where the World Rally Championship is concerned. His ambition is to have a bigger and better championship. He wants more manufacturer teams, he wants to create national heroes on bigger and better rallies. He talks our language – he's a rally man,” said Duncanson, according to the aforementioned publication.

Duncanson did not reveal a date for the confirmation of the 2011 calendar, but it is expected the ISC will make the announcement in early December.
