A 1989 ZIL Limousine that allegedly belonged to famos statesman Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin is up for sale in Moscow. Even though it costs more than half a million dollars, the Russian-made limousine comes with a lot of history on board and is probably one of the most precious collectables to come out of the Russian federation with four wheels and a boot.
We wrote about the Romanian communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu’s Dacia a little while back. It is a vehicle made in 1981 that comes with an automatic gearbox, air conditioning, electric windows and cruise control. With a 2,200cc engine that develops 115 horsepower, the four-door car was an amazing piece of kit by that era's standards.
ZIL is a major Russian truck and heavy equipment manufacturer based in Moscow, who also produced armored cars for most Soviet leaders. In other words, the 1989 ZIL Limousine comes with all the safety bits and bobs a car of this type can get.
According to the seller, it belonged to the president of the Soviet Union and it operated in the governmental garage from 1989 until 2007. A vehicle that came in only 13 units, the limousine was also used by B.N. Eltsin.
While the interior is not what you would call "luxury", this car more than makes up with the 7.7-liter V8 mill that produces 319 horsepower. It was able to reach a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h) when it was factory fresh. Moreover, it only has about 18,270 miles (29,403 km) showing on the odometer, which makes it even better.
The only natural question left to ask is whether this car is bullet-proofed or not...
