Would You Be the Coolest Brother If You Had This Yamaha XSR700?

Yamaha is becoming increasingly interested in the "official custom" scene, and the latest line-up, the Faster Sons is quite promising. The debut Faster Son is the Yamaha XSR700 we showed to you in late July was the perfect reason for fierce controversy, with riders quickly taking sides.

Regardless of whether you feel that the XSR700 looks great or should be scrapped, one thing is certain: the MT-07 and MT-09 platforms are great as starting points for modern custom machines. And since the goal of Yamaha's "official custom" is all about being able to deliver a mass-produced modding kit, here are two more feasible ideas that, truth be told, look better than the initial Faster Son.

Meet the Coolest Brothers, two of Obiboi's latest creations, both derived from the MT-07 middleweight platforms and introducing a much more coherent design language.

MT-07-based scramblers are a very appealing idea

Both bikes speak only "scramblerese", and this makes them even cooler. We showed you an MT-09-based Scrambler earlier, and even though it might be a little too heavy for serious dirt fun, the machine is a looker.

The same goes for the Coolest Bros, even though one harks back to the European retro machines and the other has American Roadster DNA. Both bikes have a revised exhaust system that brings both collectors to the right side, and it's very interesting to see how much the two seem to differ only because of the heatshields.

Oberdan Bezzi added a chin spoiler to the American brother and a bash plate to the European bike, and this introduces a noticeable change in the entire attire of the bikes, something that was dearly missed from the initial XSR700.

The American bro also got a small front cowl housing the headlight and the classic racing black/yellow speedblocks livery. Its sibling received tank pads and both machines replaced the uncanny radiator half-shrouds with larger plates which looks cleaner, tidier and seem to add a little to the functionality as they seem to draw more wind into the radiator.

Honestly, we lost count of how many interesting ideas Oberdan Bezzi delivered using Yamaha machinery. Maybe it's time Iwata gave some thought to some of them.
