World’s Smallest Portable Hydropower Device Is the Future

We might all be stuck in these crowded cities, with our long-hours jobs, and our busy lives, but it doesn’t mean all humans live a corporatist life. Some folks out there spend most of their time into the wild, capturing nature at its best moments. Whether they use their own phones as amateurs or carry heavy cameras with them, one thing always limits their journeys: battery range.
Nowadays, everything is chargeable via USB which means we only need a device small enough and clever enough to charge our gizmos. Bigger portable batteries can be one solution, but they do add a lot of the weight one has to carry along. Solar energy could be another way to go through this enigma, but then again things get quite shady when you're traveling the wild mountains. So what do you do?

Well, how about charging your stuff using the power of flowing water? Think of it as your personal, light-weight hydroelectric power plant. It’s what this Munich, Germany-based start-up created. Named Blue Freedom, its creators claim the device is the smallest and lightest hydropower plant in the world. It can be used by anyone with access to flowing water to produce and store electrical energy in an environmentally friendly way.

One hour of Blue Freedom equals 10 hours of power for your smartphone. And this goes for digital cameras, MP3 players, navigation devices, LED lamps, razors, camping fridges, tablets, notebooks - and basically any product that comes with a rechargeable battery.

Judging by the pace their Kickstarter campaign is growing we believe we’re moths away from seeing it hit the market. You'll probably want to know it will cost you little over $200 to pledge for one as we speak while the retail price is estimated at $319.

Other than the fact it’s a great piece of device we find more than impressive, here we are wondering if something similar could be used in amphibious cars to recharge their battery in the future. Maybe you guys know more on this subject.
