Toby Rich, a German company based-in Bremen that creates smartphone gadgets, has designed the world’s first smartphone-controlled aircraft. The SmartPlane is bluetooth-paired with its remote app and is controlled with just one hand. Every RC enthusiast’s dream come true, it’s made of EPP material which makes it both durable and flexible enough to ride turbulence without crashing.
We live in the world of smartphones and apps so it was about time brainiacs out there found the perfect device for us to use whenever we feel like having a good time. Well, this is how SmartPlane’s designers thought of anyway, considering this is only the most fun toy any person on planet probably would buy. And we haven’t even touch the price discussion. We’ll get there.

But first, let’s see how it works. The SmartPlane app has intuitive controls, plus a FlightAssist mode that kicks in an autopilot whenever you prove you know square about flying an small airplane. Connectivity is quick Touch & Go and will work with any Android devices with Bluetooth Smart running v. 4.3 or newer, iPhone 4S and up, iPod Touch 5th Generations and up, and iPad 3rd Generation and up.

SmartPlane weights 0.4 oz (11.8 ml) and is 8.7 x 8.7 x 3.2 in (22 x 22 x 8 cm), has a 8 to 15 minutes range, being able to fly up to 200 feet (60m) and will take 13 minutes to recharge. The prices differ from state to state, having a $70 price for customers from US and EUR 50 for people living in Germany, but you can check out more details on their website.

The German smartphone-controlled RC airplane might not be like the remote-controlled paper airplane, also guided through an smartphone, but we think it’s pretty cool.
